Beauty for Ashes

Today Abby* celebrates her Bursary Award from a school in Tasmania with her family. “I could not have done this without you mum” she told her mum, Celine*. Not that long ago, Celine was on the verge of taking her own life. She was struggling with many issues in her life, including a partner being sent to prison. She had Abby removed from her care by Child Protection Services and she wanted to end her pain at her own hand. She wanted to leave a suicide note for the Coroner explaining how the system had failed her circumstances, it was the only way at the time she felt she could be heard.

Four years ago, many within the Christian community in Launceston, including leadership within God Squad and Teen Challenge Tasmania, rallied around Celine and helped her navigate the system and personal circumstances that she felt was overwhelming her. Today, she is living a good life with her family. Although still on her journey, we still believe in our God that sets the captives free and gives Beauty for ashes, God is indeed a God of second chances.

As we celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus this Christmas, let us be encouraged that God is still in the business of turning lives around. He takes our little efforts and amplifies them to His glory. If you or someone you know is struggling please reach out for help and talk to someone.
